BBC Presenter Reveals: How Dense Breasts Quietly Delayed Her Cancer Diagnosis

by Amelia

Julia Bradbury, presenter of the BBC’s Country File, has said her dense breast tissue caused her cancer diagnosis to be delayed. She is working to raise public awareness of the issue because four out of every 10 women have the same breast tissue condition.

Bradbury, 54, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and had a unilateral mastectomy in 2021 to remove the tumor. However, she said her diagnosis was delayed because two scans failed to detect the tumor because her breast tissue was dense and difficult to spot with a mammogram. Eventually, she was diagnosed through an ultrasound.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain earlier this week, she explained: ‘I have dense breasts. I have to explain because 40% of women have dense breasts. It’s not about the shape or size of the breast, it’s about the breast tissue and its density.”
