Model Bianca Censori has once again found herself in the middle of a controversy. At the 2025 Grammys red carpet, she shocked viewers by wearing a completely transparent, skin – tight dress that left little of her body to the imagination.

Urologist Dr. Fenwa Milhouse added fuel to the speculation. She explained why this procedure might appeal to some celebrities. “Celebrities may want this new Barbie look, where the vulva is smooth and no labia minora is visible,” she said in an interview.

The surgery focuses on the external part of the vulva. It aims to change its appearance when the folds are more extended than a patient desires. The “Barbie look” Dr. Milhouse mentioned is achieved by reducing or “trimming” the labia minora so that it “folds back” into the vagina, covered by the labia majora.
In her interview with The Sun, Dr. Milhouse thinks the rise of fashion trends that emphasize thinness and more skin exposure may have contributed to this trend. Models like Bianca Censori, Bella Hadid, and others often wear outfits like tiny bikinis and body – tight dresses that show a lot.
Experts say the labiaplasty procedure has become more popular in recent years. Most patients have psychological or physical discomfort as their reasons. Dr. Camila Atal, a surgeon specializing in aesthetic harmonization, told Bored Panda that although it’s still a relatively niche service compared to others, labiaplasty has seen a significant increase in popularity. “More and more women are considering labiaplasty for various reasons,” the doctor said. “Most do it for aesthetic reasons, but some, due to difficult births or other causes, have discomfort during physical activity and irritation.”
Data from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) shows that between 2015 and 2020, the popularity of labiaplasty in the United States increased by 73%, and this number has been rising steadily each year. The same study explored the reasons women had for getting the surgery. The majority of those interviewed reported discomfort during sexual intercourse, either physical or psychological. “Negative comments from sexual partners also affect the decision to have labiaplasty,” the paper showed. “71% of women who had labiaplasty had received a critical comment from a sexual partner.”
