In January 26,2025,PITTSFIELD – A plastic surgeon in Pittsfield has had his medical license reprimanded by the state Board of Registration in Medicine following an error during a procedure.
The board said that Dr. George Csank, who practices at the Berkshire Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery Center on South Street in Pittsfield, “excised the wrong lesion” on a patient. It also stated that he agreed that, by doing so, he “failed to meet the standard of care in his treatment.”
The reprimand was issued through a consent order, the board said.
A reprimand is a public disciplinary measure, and Csank’s medical license remains intact. According to the Federation of State Medical Boards, it is one of many actions that state boards have the authority to take against physicians, and usually amounts to a warning or a letter of concern. Csank has been licensed to practice medicine in the state since 1991 and is board – certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is also licensed in Florida and New York.
According to the center’s website, he focuses on skin care, facial rejuvenation, body contouring, breast surgery, and maxillofacial reconstruction.
The state Board of Registration in Medicine is responsible for the licensing, regulation, and discipline of all state physicians and acupuncturists. It also investigates complaints and determines sanctions.
Csank is one of two plastic surgeons at the Berkshire Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery Center. He shares the facility with Dr. Basil M. Michaels, who has a separate practice from Csank and whose license was not subject to the reprimand.
In July 2024, The Eagle reported that the center was seeing 500 people a week for a variety of visits and check – ups, ranging from plastic surgery, skin care, and cancer treatments, in part due to a shortage of county dermatologists. The center was also preparing to open a satellite location in Great Barrington.
