The lawyer of the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case has disclosed some astonishing plans. The suspect is Christian Brueckner, a convicted paedophile. He’s currently in prison in Germany.
Brueckner, who will be released from Sehnde Prison near Hanover this September after serving a seven – year sentence for raping an elderly person in Praia da Luz, Portugal, is thinking of fleeing Europe. His lawyer, Philipp Marquort, said that if he were Brueckner, he would leave Europe. He’d look for a country that doesn’t have extradition treaties with Europe or Britain, like Suriname perhaps.
Brueckner is worried about being well – known in public. So, he’s considering changing his appearance. He might even get plastic surgery. His lawyer has advised him to have a face operation to stay anonymous. But right now, he has no money for such a procedure. For now, he can only think about getting a fake moustache, sunglasses, or a hat.
The German prisoner could get day release in a few weeks. Usually, such privileges start eight months before the end of the sentence. During day release, he can visit cafes, shops, and estate agents to arrange accommodation.
Before his release, Brueckner has to pay an outstanding fine of about £1,400. Otherwise, he’ll be detained until January 2026.
When he’s released, Brueckner will get a discharge grant of around £2,000 from German taxpayers. This is to help him adjust to life outside prison.
The German prosecutor, Hans – Christian Wolters, has said there’s currently no chance of an indictment in the Maddie case. In response, Brueckner is thinking of taking legal action against the German state. This is because he was publicly identified as a suspect. His lawyer said he could pursue the case in Germany or the US, and might seek a large amount of damages, maybe even in the millions or tens of millions.
Brueckner also believes that authorities put surveillance equipment in his cell. He claims he found a microphone there late last year.
