Hong Kong’s Consumer Council has revealed that certain affordable anti-wrinkle eye creams perform better than products from high-end brands like Sulwhasoo, Estee Lauder, and Shiseido. The findings, released Thursday, suggest that consumers can achieve effective results without spending a premium, though the watchdog urged users to manage their expectations when choosing products.
In addition to performance, the council’s tests uncovered the presence of harmful ingredients, including formaldehyde and fragrance allergens, in some of the 15 eye creams tested. One sample was found to contain traces of a potentially toxic substance.
Gilly Wong Fung-han, chief executive of the Consumer Council, emphasized that consumers have a wide range of effective products to choose from, regardless of price. “From luxury to budget-friendly options, there are good products available to suit your budget,” she said.
