A beautician in Hong Kong has been sentenced to seven weeks in prison for aiding her unlicensed manager in administering a botched Botox injection at a now-closed aesthetic treatment center. Lau Lo, 38, was convicted in Kowloon City Court for performing medical treatments without proper registration, resulting in injuries to a client.

The incident occurred on November 7, 2022, when Lau referred her friend, Qian Qingqing, to receive a botulinum toxin shot from manager Zhang Min, who lacked the necessary qualifications. Following the injection, Qian experienced adverse effects, including blurred vision, difficulty chewing, and an increased heart rate. Lau received a commission of HK$200 (approximately US$26) for the referral.

Magistrate Kestrel Lam Tsz-hong emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the potential risks to public safety, making an immediate prison sentence unavoidable.
