Michael Jackson’s journey into cosmetic surgery is explored in a new docuseries, The Wonderland Massacre & The Secret History of Hollywood, which premiered on MGM+ in September. The series delves into the infamous 1981 Wonderland murders and uncovers a surprising connection between Jackson, pianist Liberace, and the doctor who performed Jackson’s first nose job.

In the docuseries, Scott Thorson, Liberace’s former lover and a key witness against the Wonderland Gang, reveals that he introduced Jackson to Dr. Jack Startz, who performed the surgery. Thorson recalls meeting Jackson through Liberace in the 1980s, both undergoing cosmetic procedures simultaneously. “Michael decided to have his nose done. I was having my chin and nose done… we had it on the same day,” Thorson stated.

Thorson further alleges that Dr. Startz was intoxicated during the procedures, recalling, “The doctor came up, and he was drunk when he was shooting Liberace full of Demerol. I had to take the needle away from him.” He expressed feelings of guilt about introducing Jackson to the doctor, suggesting this led to the King of Pop’s extensive journey with plastic surgery. Jackson, who died in 2009, would go on to undergo multiple cosmetic procedures throughout his life.
