Despite severe weather conditions, including floods and heavy rain, the Tzu Chi Eye Center remained operational on July 24, delivering crucial services to cataract patients in need.
The center’s commitment to its mission was unwavering as volunteer eye doctors, led by Dr. Alex Sua, conducted eight surgeries and provided consultations to five additional patients throughout the day. The team’s dedication ensured that all scheduled procedures were completed despite the challenging circumstances.
Prior to the center’s official opening, Tzu Chi staff and volunteers prepared and served hot meals to the patients, demonstrating their unwavering support and care.
In a statement from the eye center, they expressed deep empathy for the patients who navigated adverse weather to access eye care services. They also praised their volunteers and medical team for their resilience and dedication. “We are proud of our volunteers and medical team for their steadfast commitment, showing true courage and compassion in the face of adversity,” the center noted. “Duty called, and they answered with unwavering resolve, embodying the spirit of true bodhisattvas.”
