Sam Ryder, the 2022 Eurovision runner-up, did not let a recent medical procedure hinder his performance at the Vegan Camp Out Festival. Despite having a swollen eye from surgery to remove a lump above his eyebrow, Ryder took to the stage, much to the delight of his fans.

The 34-year-old singer reassured his followers that the surgery was minor and posed no significant health risk. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ryder expressed his appreciation for the support and camaraderie he experienced at the festival. He wrote, “Had some surgery to remove a lump above my eye (should be all good though, nothing to worry about). The best medicine was a weekend full of music with my pals and singing my head off with you all!” He humorously added, “P.S. sorry for jumping around, Doc.”

The Vegan Camp Out Festival, held from July 28 to 31 in Oxfordshire, also featured notable performers including comedian Romesh Ranganathan.

In a recent interview, Ryder reflected on the Eurovision Song Contest held in Liverpool in May. He praised UK entry Mae Muller for her remarkable performance, acknowledging the bravery required to perform on such a grand stage. “Every single one of those people doing the same thing [as Muller] is stepping onto a stage for three minutes in front of 200 million people, which takes an incredible amount of guts,” Ryder told the PA news agency.

Ryder emphasized that the value of music should not be measured by scores, but rather appreciated for the emotional impact it has on listeners. He expressed his belief that it is essential for fans to respect and support performers. “It’s music, you can’t score music in a metric, but you can have a lot of admiration for people who put themselves in the arena,” he said. “The way scores land is influenced by many factors, but we must treat performers with respect.”

Since his Eurovision success, Ryder has continued to thrive, gaining over 14 million followers on TikTok. His recent achievements include writing the song “Fought And Lost,” which featured in the penultimate episode of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso. Reflecting on this experience, Ryder described it as “a dream” and expressed his excitement about his continued success in the entertainment industry.
