Over 50 individuals from Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have received free eye surgeries courtesy of Lifted Hands Incorporated, a medical outreach organization based in the United States. The surgeries were part of a comprehensive two-day medical program that included free diagnoses for community members over the weekend.
The procedures were carried out at Iyi-Enu University Teaching Hospital in Ogidi, serving as a crucial referral center for the medical team. Lifted Hands Incorporated emphasized that the initiative aimed to provide essential healthcare access to underprivileged individuals, including both the elderly and young, promoting overall wellness and health maintenance.
Dr. Obinna Arinze, an ophthalmologist from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital and a member of the medical team, confirmed the success of the surgeries, highlighting the absence of complications. He noted that patients with severe conditions were monitored overnight, while others were discharged following treatment.
Speaking after the event, Moses Okaro, President and founder of Lifted Hands Incorporated, underscored the organization’s commitment to delivering free medical services, including surgeries for ailments like eye problems, diabetes, malaria, hypertension, and mental health checks. He expressed deep satisfaction with the impact of their volunteer mission in Nigeria, citing the joy and healing experienced by the community members.
Okaro revealed that the organization, in operation for 15 years, conducts these annual outreaches in memory of their late mother, Mrs. Gladys Okaro. He detailed the breadth of services provided during this year’s outreach, which included not only surgeries and medical checks but also provisions of food, clothing, eyeglasses, footwear, and educational materials to attendees.
Pascal Obasi, one of the beneficiaries of the eye surgeries, expressed profound gratitude to Lifted Hands Mission for restoring his vision, remarking on the immense impact it had on his life. Similarly, Mrs. Agnes Okafor shared how the surgery provided her with renewed hope and vitality.
Lifted Hands Incorporated plans to continue its mission in Nigeria, with future initiatives already in the works for 2025. Their ongoing dedication reflects a sustained effort to improve healthcare accessibility and enhance the well-being of communities in need.
