Romanian tennis sensation Simona Halep has faced significant challenges in her career related to physical discomfort. At 18, after winning the Junior French Open in 2008, Halep underwent breast reduction surgery to address severe back pain and discomfort that affected her performance on the court.

Halep, who previously wore a 34DD bra size, experienced considerable strain due to the added weight. The surgery, which reduced her cup size to 34C, was aimed at alleviating the back pain and discomfort that hindered her gameplay.

Last summer, instead of focusing on improving her ranking, Halep dedicated her time to recovery from the procedure. She made her return to the tennis circuit at Roland Garros in Paris, the venue of her notable Junior French Open victory. However, her comeback was met with a setback as she was defeated in the first round by Australia’s former semi-finalist, Samantha Stosur.

Despite some fans expressing concerns over her decision, Halep remains confident about her choice. “It’s the weight that troubles me. My ability to react quickly is compromised, and my breasts make me uncomfortable while playing,” Halep stated. “I also find them uncomfortable in my daily life. I would have opted for surgery even if I wasn’t a sportswoman.”

Halep, currently ranked 114 in the world, hopes that her new physical condition will enhance her performance and contribute to her career longevity.
