A photographer from St. Ann’s will have to pay $1.5 million in restitution plus interest, including cosmetic surgery. This was because a businesswoman was attacked and bitten by one of his dogs. Last month, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of plaintiff Leonie Luers, who had filed a personal injury lawsuit against Curtis Senier for negligence.
Luers was walking in the Bel-Air neighborhood of St. Ann’s Escape Bay when she was attacked by four dogs, including a Rottweiler owned by Sinier, who repeatedly bit her on her left thigh and knee.
She was awarded $975,000 in general damages and $51,666.24 in special damages. Both payments are subject to 3% interest from May 16, 2016 to November 8, 2024.
Luhrs was also awarded $450,000 for future medical expenses to pay for cosmetic surgery for a scar on her thigh. However, Mr Sinier has denied negligence, claiming that he did not leave the Rottweiler unrestrained and explaining that the dog had broken free on its own and that it was the first time it had broken free of the chain.
However, Judge Tricia Hutchinson Smith found in a recently released judgment that Sinier had failed in his duty to properly care for his dog for the safety of others.
