SZA has been really open about her decision to have her breast implants removed.
The 34 – year – old singer explained on the March 8 Friday episode of the “SHE MD” podcast that a high risk of breast cancer was the reason. She said, “Because of my risk of breast cancer, and I have these metal markers in my breast for the fibrosis from lumps or something. With all that, I shouldn’t have breast implants.”
SZA said her mom had been diagnosed with breast cancer before, and her aunt had a mastectomy. After getting plastic surgery, SZA found out that because of her family history, she had a 53 percent chance of getting breast cancer in her lifetime.
She remembered, “When I got my boobs done, my doctor took out some of my fibrosis. But there was so much of it, it was crazy. He removed it. And when I went back, a lot of my worries were gone.”
SZA also mentioned a bunch of other stars who’ve talked about plastic surgery, like Ariana Grande.
SZA wanted to look into her concerns more before making a decision. She said, “I wanted to talk to someone with a spiritual view, especially about the breast cancer thing and the marker before I got the biopsy results. I talked to someone because I thought, ‘I need to know what’s going on in a deeper sense.’” She was supposed to see a doctor before getting the implants, but she “sneaked” off and got them anyway.
Genevieve Padalecki also had her breast implants removed because of “weird pains”.
SZA said, “Basically, I got the implants. They ended up hurting me. I got way too much scar tissue because my breasts are too dense, and I wasn’t supposed to have implants. So, I got extra fibrosis… I didn’t feel well, and it was painful. So, I took them out, and now, I just have my natural boobs.”
In the past, SZA has never been afraid to talk about her plastic surgery. In 2023, she told Elle magazine that she got a Brazilian butt lift. She said, “I think of my butt like a purse. It’s just there to make everything else look better.”
SZA added, “That’s why I paid for it. It does its job on its own. I always wanted a really big butt without having to go to the gym so much. I wasn’t pressured by the industry. I just looked in the mirror and thought, ‘No, I need more butt.’”
Before sharing her medical story, SZA had a great start to the year. She won a Grammy in 2024. Last month at the awards show, she got the Best R&B Song trophy.
During her acceptance speech, she said, “I’m sorry, I’m just really emotional. You don’t really get it. I’ve come a really long way, and I can’t believe this is happening. It feels so unreal.”
Then she saw Taylor Swift and said, “Hi, Taylor, I love you.”
