A man from Glasgow can no longer work because a botched hair transplant left him with scars. Mark Sweeney, 57, chose to have the procedure at the Merchant City Medical Centre. He had heard scary stories about people getting hair transplants abroad. But his hope for a thick head of hair turned into a nightmare.
The transplant left a large, scarred patch of skin across the top of his forehead. Mark, who used to be a waiter, says the botched job has made it impossible for him to work. He can’t face the public and has to push his hair forward to hide the ugly skin. He told the Record, “They’ve ruined my life, completely ruined and destroyed it, and I can’t do a thing about it.” Mark quit his job at Glasgow’s Buttery restaurant because he was too ashamed to be seen in public.
Since the transplant, he has been suffering from anxiety and depression due to his poor self – image. His GP has put him on medication. Mark paid £3,500 for the procedure. Now, he has scarring on his forehead and a bald spot on the side of his head where the grafts were taken.
He said, “I’m bald where they took the hair, and I have a scar at the front. My hairline is uneven, lower on one side. What I do now is grow my hair long in the front and shave the hairline to try to hide it.”
The Merchant City Medical’s website says the company offers hair transplant surgery, along with other hair treatments like scalp pigmentation and PRP. They also do non – surgical treatments such as fillers and anti – wrinkle injections. Surgical procedures like liposuction, breast augmentation, and others are available too. Mark is warning others who are thinking about hair transplants to be aware of the risks, even if they have the procedure done in the UK.
