Jenna Lyons is truly someone who supports other women. Whether you’re considering getting cosmetic surgery or not, Lyons stands by you.
At 56 years old, Lyons comments on society’s judgmental attitude towards cosmetic surgery. She tells PEOPLE, “We’re all so extremely judgmental. Whatever suits you is fine. People should do what makes sense for them and what makes them feel good. It’s a very personal choice.” As she gets older, Lyons admits that she does have some difficulties dealing with the changes in her appearance. And she also says that her views on cosmetic surgery are constantly evolving. Her initial reaction to the idea of cosmetic surgery? “Sign me up!”
On February 19 in New York, Lyons participated in a panel at Shiseido’s Potential Has No Age Summit. She also reveals to PEOPLE that filler makes her nervous. She likes being able to show expressions and visible emotions, so that’s why she’s hesitant about it.
When it comes to taking care of her own well-being, Lyons prefers to rely on trusted skincare products and self-care routines. “I really enjoy applying body oil, taking a bath, getting out my gua sha tool and lying in bed. I love the whole process,” she says. One product she really values is the Shiseido Vital Perfection Uplifting and Firming Advanced Cream. Lyons praises it for how it improves both her mood and her skin.
When it comes to the skincare choices others make, Lyons just wants people to do what makes them happy. If that means getting a cosmetic procedure, Botox, or something else, she says, “Go for it.”
Lyons joined the cast of Real Housewives of New York for season 14. This has put her in the public eye more than ever before (she has a rich background in the fashion industry that helped her rise in that field). She admits that it has led to a more complex view of herself.
When she saw herself on screen during the first season of the show, she was very critical of her appearance. She had to change that attitude, which wasn’t easy. “I have to look at myself carefully when I’m on TV, and I do pay attention,” she tells PEOPLE. “I remember in the first season I did the show. I was really tough on myself about how I looked, and I was comparing myself to women who were 20 years younger than me. They’re all much younger. In the second season, I received a lot of positive feedback from people, especially those who said, ‘I love that you’re showing your gray hair.'”
Lyons says it was disappointing that she was relying on external validation for her appearance. But she knows she’s human and that’s a natural reaction. Now, she tries to be more gentle with herself. “I was hard on myself, so now my message is to be kinder.”
On February 19, during a panel called Facing the Pressures to Look Youthful, she, supermodel Linda Evangelista, and Shiseido’s CMO Agnes Landau shared their wellness routines and how they feel beautiful in their skin in their 50s and 60s.
For Lyons, she talked about discovering the wonderful qualities of Japanese products, including Japanese skincare like Shiseido. She even joked that she would trust anyone from Japan and anything made in Japan because of the great attention to detail.
The event, which was celebrating Shiseido’s new Vital Perfection Concentrated Supreme Cream, also had a panel with content creators Tennille Jenkins and Ana Dias, along with dermatologist Dr. Michelle Henry. The panel was called Starring in Your Second Act and it was all about living an authentic life on social media and making a career change to become a content creator.
