Top plastic surgeons have shared how patients are now avoiding obvious cosmetic procedures. Instead, they’re choosing subtle surgical enhancements.
This trend is called the ‘Midwest Makeover’. It’s named this way because it reflects the more understated style of people from the Midwest. This is in contrast to the more extreme cosmetic looks that are often seen on the west coast.
The ‘Midwest Makeover’ is a beautification process that uses a combination of minimally invasive procedures. It doesn’t involve major surgery. There are a lot of advanced devices and techniques available now. With these, the small changes made to the body are hardly noticeable.
Dr Michele Green, a cosmetic dermatologist based in New York, told DailyMail.com that for many years, extreme makeovers were very popular. Patients would ask for things like overly plump lips, Brazilian butt lifts, and too much Botox to try and get the ‘Kardashian look’.
But last year, she noticed a big change. More people started wanting to improve their skin in a subtle way. They wanted it to be so subtle that no one could tell they had any cosmetic work done.
Dr Green said that she and other cosmetic surgeons have started calling this the ‘Midwest makeover’. That’s because women in the Midwest have always preferred a more elegant look compared to women in other parts of the US, especially in Los Angeles.
Laser treatments are becoming very popular as part of the Midwest makeover. These treatments can quickly lift the skin and give it a nice, glowing look. And they don’t require a lot of time to recover.
Laser skin treatments use light beams to make the skin’s texture, tone, and firmness better. Some laser treatments are not very harsh and don’t need any recovery time. But laser skin resurfacing, where the outer layer of the skin is removed, can make the skin red for up to 48 hours.
Dr Green also said, ‘The technologies have gotten better. Now we have so many advanced treatments that can make a real difference without having to do major surgery.’
One of the most popular treatments she offers is the Thermage FLX treatment. The cost of this treatment usually ranges from $2,500 to $5,000, depending on which part of the body is being treated.
Dr Green explained how the Thermage FLX treatment works to make the skin look better. She said, ‘It uses radiofrequency technology to heat the layers of the skin that have a lot of collagen. This stimulates the production of collagen and reduces loose skin.’
The focused heat from the treatment makes the existing collagen fibers in the skin shrink right away. This helps to make new collagen. And this, in turn, makes the skin look younger and smoother in just a few months.
Dr Green said that the results of the Thermage FLX treatment can last up to two years.
Sarah Bonner is the beauty director of Skinney Medspa in New York. She said that her clinic offers non-invasive facelifts. These facelifts give a very natural result without the need for surgery.
Her favorite treatment right now is Sofwave. It costs $3,800 for a full-face makeover.
During a 30-minute Sofwave treatment, a machine sends ultrasound beams through the skin. This painlessly reduces the signs of aging.
It does this by making the body produce more collagen. It restores the skin’s elasticity, smooths out wrinkles, and lifts the skin, making it look younger.
Ms Bonner said, ‘If you have the Sofwave treatment, your friends and family will notice that you look different. But they won’t be able to tell what kind of treatment you’ve had.’
