Hair Transplant Woes: British Choreographer’s Surprising Swelling Draws Social Media Attention

A British man has become an internet sensation. His reaction after a hair transplant is truly astonishing.

Hair transplants are a common cosmetic treatment for men going bald. Recent reports show that in the past ten years, there has been a huge 240% increase in the number of these procedures.

Although the treatment is now quite common, with over 2,000 operations happening every day around the world, it does come with risks. Kanah Flex, who was born in London, found this out the hard way. He’s a professional choreographer and has been sharing his hair – transplant journey on TikTok. He showed that after the procedure, his head swelled up a lot. In fact, he compared himself to the fictional character “Megamind”.

In a recent video, Flex explained exactly which parts of his hair he was having fixed.

“To be honest, my hairline was okay, so I didn’t move it forward. It was mainly my crown and the donor area that needed work,” he said.

“I could have moved my hairline forward, and everyone said I should. But if I did, they’d have to take more grafts. A graft is two hairs. I had 4,000 grafts done, which means 8,000 hairs were put into my head. I didn’t use any to move my hairline forward because it would have made my hair less thick on top, and I didn’t want that.”

After a consultation at a clinic in London, Flex was told about the risks. Then, he went into the operating room. They shaved his head, and he was excited to see it.

But during the procedure, which involves injecting the scalp many times before the actual hair – implanting part, his head started to swell a great deal.

The surgery took four hours. After that, they put a headband on him to help with the swelling.

When he first saw how big his head had become, he said, “Oh my god, what’s happening? God damn, look at my head. I look like Squidward. I look like Megamind. I look like Roger from American Dad. What’s going on? The hairline will get better. I know I look crazy right now, but it’s just part of the process. In six months, I’ll look better, but right now, I look like an alien.”

Better Health Victoria says swelling is a normal side effect of a hair transplant. They also say that bruising, numbness, a tight feeling on the scalp, and pain are common.

However, the extreme swelling got a lot of attention on social media. Many people compared Flex to different fictional characters.
One person commented, “It’s normal after a hair transplant, but you shouldn’t take off this band.”

Another social media user asked, “Why is the headband so tight?”

Someone else wondered, “What happens if you take off the headband?” One user said, “I’ve never seen this much swelling in all the hair – transplant surgeries I’ve seen.”

Three days later, Flex made a joke about his “Megamind” – like swelling going down.

“I don’t know what you all are talking about. My swelling is going down. You just have to trust the process,” he said.

He said he knew a few days ago he looked crazy and like Megamind, but now he was looking more like his normal self.

“It’s getting better,” he said.
