Since its launch, the “Light of Hope” Cataract Surgery Project in Ethiopia has been steadily progressing at the Tikur Anbessa – Beijing Hospital, with remarkable success.
This project is jointly carried out by the expert team from Tianjin Eye Hospital and the medical team aiding Ethiopia. During the implementation of the project, they have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication. The experts have been working tirelessly, carefully screening every patient. So far, they have completed the screening of nearly 800 patients.
For those patients who meet the surgical criteria, the Chinese team meticulously formulates surgical plans for them. During the surgeries, the Chinese expert group and the local Ethiopian doctors collaborate closely. Relying on their exquisite medical skills and rich experience, they ensure that each operation is carried out with precision and efficiency. Up to now, 354 free phacoemulsification surgeries have been successfully completed, enabling numerous cataract patients to regain their eyesight.
Moreover, the Chinese experts are also deeply concerned about the post – operative recovery of the patients. They provide them with meticulous recovery guidance. Many patients were pleasantly surprised to find that their vision had significantly improved in a short time after the surgery. They could clearly see the world around them, and their quality of life has been greatly enhanced. Their faces are beaming with smiles of happiness and gratitude, and they highly praise the efforts of the Chinese medical team.
The Chinese expert group stated that they will continue to uphold their professionalism, stick to their posts, and spare no effort to help more Ethiopian cataract patients dispel the darkness in front of their eyes, enabling them to regain their eyesight and embrace a beautiful life. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, more patients will benefit from this project and regain hope and confidence in life.
