Michael Ball, the celebrated 62-year-old musical theatre star, has shared an amusing and candid story about his brief foray into Botox, sparked by advice from a well-known singer.
Appearing on Loose Women, Ball revealed that, in his late forties, a famous singer—whose identity he chose not to disclose—suggested he undergo the age-defying treatment before he “needed” it. The advice, which came over 15 years ago, left Ball intrigued, though initially skeptical.
“It was about 15, maybe even longer, years ago,” Ball recalled. “A very well-known – who shall remain nameless – singer was looking great. She said, ‘Botox love, do it now before you need it!’ And I thought, ‘That ship may have sailed…'”
Despite his reservations, the West End legend ultimately decided to go through with it. However, the results were far from what he expected. “I went, and I thought ‘Come on, let’s have a bit…'” he said, only to be shocked by the painful procedure. “First of all, it hurts like you can’t believe. Or, I thought it did, and I’m not that brave.”
To add to the humor, Ball compared his appearance post-procedure to a character from Star Trek. “I came out and I looked like a Klingon. This eye went up, this one came down.”
The star, known for his roles in Les Misérables and Phantom of the Opera, also shared the reaction from his long-time partner, Cathy McGowan, who has been with him since 1972. “I went home and Cathy said, ‘What the hell have you done? You can’t go out! So six months!'” Ball laughed, recalling how he had to stay indoors for half a year after the botched procedure.
While the Botox experience was brief and painful, Ball made light of it, offering a memorable warning: “But there is one clip, I’d gone on Wogan’s Now and Then, and this was at the tail end of the Botox effect. So never, ever, ever… let that be a lesson!”
Ball’s story serves as both a humorous cautionary tale and a reminder of the unpredictable results of cosmetic procedures.
