Airi Hirase, a 27-year-old Japanese influencer, has revealed her journey through over 20 cosmetic surgeries, investing approximately 24 million yen (about US$170,000) to reshape her appearance. Her transformation is rooted in painful childhood experiences, particularly emotional abuse from her mother, who constantly criticized her looks and compared her to her estranged father.

Hirase began contemplating plastic surgery at age 15 and received her first procedure at 19. Today, she boasts 1.1 million followers on Instagram and 300,000 on X, sharing her before-and-after photos and documenting her story, which resonates with many. Hirase faced bullying throughout her childhood, being called “ugly” and told she “looked like a man,” which fueled her inferiority complex and led to a suicide attempt during secondary school.

Determined to change her life, she took on multiple part-time jobs, saved around 10 million yen (US$70,000), and invested in surgeries that dramatically altered her appearance. Despite her newfound success as an influencer and appearances on reality TV and in fashion magazines, Hirase admits she still struggles with self-confidence.

Reflecting on her past, she expressed a commitment to providing a loving environment for any future children, stating, “I will never act like my mother.” Psychological counselor Zhang Xiwen noted that individuals with inferiority complexes often find it challenging to recognize their own value, emphasizing the importance of self-acceptance. Observers have praised Hirase’s resilience and dedication to personal growth.
