Davina McCall has revealed how she stayed calm to help her brain surgeon before a complex operation to remove a brain cyst. The 57 – year – old TV presenter was about to have a six – hour surgery. She said she almost begged the 62 – year – old consultant neurosurgeon, Kevin O’Neill, to “keep me alive” for her three kids. But in the end, as the operation neared, Davina kept her cool. She told the doctor, “‘You do whatever you need to do. I put all my faith in you’.” She believes these 14 words are why her November surgery was a success. Now, Davina is getting ready to host the new BBC show, Stranded on Honeymoon Island.
Davina explained that she didn’t want to add pressure to Dr O’Neill. He needed to be confident and not worried to do his best work. She found out about the cyst by accident during a routine body scan, which led to an emergency trip to the hospital. In one of her first interviews after the surgery, an emotional Davina praised Dr O’Neill. The two have become very close friends.
The operation was very delicate. Dr O’Neill made an incision from ear to ear, opened her skull, and removed the 14 – millimeter colloid cyst in the third ventricle of her brain. He compared the job to bomb disposal. He used GPS equipment and tiny stickers on Davina’s head as trackers. This was reported by the Mirror.
Davina knew how dangerous the procedure was. So, she got her affairs in order. She finished writing her will and wrote letters to her grown – up children, Holly, Tilly, and Chester.
