Melinda (Mindy) Haws, MD, said, “I like to think that I’m at the forefront of a big wave of women plastic surgeons. It’s really exciting to see so many amazing female talents following me. I want to give back. I want to help them stand on my shoulders and achieve even more. Allergan gives me a platform to do that. It allows me to reach out to more women than I could have on my own.”
Haws is the immediate past president of The Aesthetic Society and a private doctor in Nashville, Tennessee. In a previous interview with Dermatology Times, she talked about the importance of the LIMITLESS program. This program aims to empower women who are leaders in aesthetic medicine. It’s a joint effort between Allergan Aesthetics, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and The Aesthetic Society. They work together to support women in leadership positions in plastic surgery and dermatology.
Allergan, ASPS, and The Aesthetic Society have played a very important part in creating opportunities for female leaders. These organizations offer full cooperation. They provide video support, training, and educational materials for doctors in their practices and at academic institutions. Allergan doesn’t just focus on selling products. They make sure that their aesthetic treatments, like Botox, are used safely and effectively by well-trained doctors. Haws said that good training is crucial for keeping aesthetic procedures safe and maintaining the good reputation of the field. She pointed out that any bad result can affect the whole industry. Through these training programs, doctors are better prepared. This is good for their practices and also helps build long-term loyalty to the brands.
Haws emphasized to female dermatologists and aesthetic clinicians that leadership isn’t just about traditional, big roles. It’s not only about being a society president or a department head.
“As doctors, we are all leaders of our teams. Whether you’re a surgeon in the operating room or a dermatologist in your office, we all benefit from learning how to lead better,” Haws said.
According to Haws, leadership skills can always be improved. The LIMITLESS program gives women a great chance to learn and grow in these areas. She also pointed out that although the challenges women face in their careers aren’t necessarily more difficult than those men face, they are different. Balancing family duties, like taking care of children or elderly relatives, often makes a woman’s professional life more complicated. Allergan, The Aesthetic Society, and ASPS understand these special challenges. They offer tools and support to help women manage their practices, improve their leadership skills, and explore their personal development.
