Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation: The Rising Natural Alternative To Implants

by Amelia

For a long time, breast implants have been the go-to option for women who want to improve their body figures. But nowadays, more and more patients are choosing a different way. It’s called fat transfer breast augmentation. It’s a natural method that uses a woman’s own fat to make her breasts look fuller and more shapely.

Traditional breast implants require putting foreign objects into the body. But this fat transfer procedure doesn’t need that. As a result, it greatly reduces risks like the implant breaking and long-term problems. This trend is becoming more and more popular. Data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) shows that in the U.S., the number of fat transfer breast augmentations increased by 117% from 2020 to 2021. A clinic leading this trend is Squlpt. It has locations in Los Angeles and Miami. Squlpt is an aesthetic practice that specializes in SoftSqulpt technology. This is an advanced way of doing awake liposuction and fat transfer. It can shape the body and increase breast volume without the risks of general anesthesia. Dr. Daniel Suissa, who is an aesthetic plastic surgeon and the founder of Squlpt, has noticed a change in what women expect from such procedures.

Suissa said, “These days, women want results that look natural and they want to avoid the look that comes with implants.” He added, “With fat transfer, we use your own fat instead of something foreign, and we can shape several parts of the body at the same time.”

Fat transfer breast augmentation works like this. First, fat is taken from areas such as the abdomen, back, or thighs. This is done using a technique called awake lipo-shaping. During this process, patients stay awake but they are made to feel comfortable. Then, the fat is cleaned up and carefully injected into the breasts to give them a nice, proportional, teardrop shape.

Suissa pointed out that avoiding general anesthesia is a big reason why many women like this option. He said, “Nowadays, more people want to stay away from the risks and the difficult recovery that come with being put to sleep during surgery. This procedure lets them get the look they want with very little time needed to recover and very little scarring.” As more women learn about the problems related to implants, like breast implant illness, capsular contracture, and the need to replace implants every 10 to 15 years, some are starting to wonder if traditional implants will still be the best choice.

Suissa admits that implants still have a use for some patients. But he thinks the situation is changing. He said, “For now, implants still have a place in cosmetic surgery. Some women like the look of implants or they don’t have enough fat for a transfer, but that doesn’t happen often. But as technology gets better, implants might one day not be needed anymore.”

One important new technology that experts are paying attention to is fat cell reproduction technology. This could make it possible to transfer more fat and get more certain results.

Suissa said, “Once we can make fat cells in a lab and then inject them back into the body, implants will be out of the picture. But we’re still a few years away from that.” The kind of patients who get this procedure is also changing. For a long time, breast augmentation was mainly for younger women. But Suissa says the demand is now coming from many different kinds of patients.

He said, “We have younger women in their early 20s who can finally afford to get the body shape they’ve always dreamed of. But we also have mothers who have finished breastfeeding.

They want to get back the volume they lost and feel good about their bodies again.”

For a lot of women, fat transfer isn’t just about making their breasts look better. It’s about shaping their whole body. Since the procedure removes fat from areas that are hard to slim down, it’s often seen as a two-in-one solution that gives a more shaped and balanced look.
